Lesson can come from any places

It turned out that before becoming a driver, he was a manager. From a cruise and golf company.
I was so wowed listening his stories about him had traveled into almost half part of the world. He even got to Greek! Tanah suci nya saint seiya. Constantly at that time he was like a saint too for me.
Spanish, france, italian and even a little of Japanese. How cool is that!
Anyway, paska krismon menyerang, he got the impact. Got laid off, and for sometimes didn’t have any job
That was why he accepted the first job offer that came to him. It was to be a driver. And it lasts till now
Saat gue tanya ke dia apa dia ga tertarik untuk apply2 lagi, dia cuma bilang “Gak lah mbak, saya udah tua, kalah pasar sama generasi baru”. He said it without any sadness, tapi malah dengan senyum ikhlas
From day one, ive admired this driver so much. His hospitality, the way he treats visitor, his initiative and cooperation have always been di atas rata-rata. Tapi setelah dengar cerita dia, i even admire him more.
He shows me how to always be gratefull in life. And one of the way to show it is to always work wholeheartedly to your job.
Thankyou Pak Yanto!

A piece of the past

Batagor itu istimewa.
Salah satu makanan kesukaan sejak kecil.
Abangnya ganjen luar biasa. Kemejanya dua kancing selalu dibuka. Nongolin bulu dada. Makanya kalo ada orang bilang bulu dada, gue pasti inget si awang.
Tapi batagornya enak. Gue suka makan dicampur nasi. And yet masih enak batagornya
Sampe sekarang belum nemu batagor yang seenak buatan dia sih. Well batagor kingsley Bandung mirip-mirip lah.
Hahaha…
Anyway, batagornya dah jadi. Makan dulu ciiin

cuma pengen posting aja si

The elephant leaves his tusks behind

This Saturday brought the sad news of the passing away of IOM’s former chief of mission, Pak Steve Cook. A humble man who was loved deeply by almost all the people who knew him.

I have not been particularly close to him when he was alive. At IOM, my work did not demand much interaction with the man, but whenever we passed by at the office, him with his unique gait, newspaper tucked under his arms, a warm smile on his face, I had the unmistakable impression that I in the presence of a greatly kind and humble person.

I don’t know how it is at IOM nowadays, but when I was there, all of the staff under him were closely knit. We were more of a family. And this feeling has lasted even among us who are no longer with the Organization.

I believe that our fond memories of IOM was largely thanks to Pak Steve. His warm demeanor and his affectionate concern for every employee working at IOM have rubbed off on many of us who had the privilege of working with him.

No doubt that the news of his passing have brought tears to a great number of people whose lives he has touched. But we know that he’s in a better place, and that he has lived his life to the fullest and that he has done so the way he wanted it. Nevertheless, we miss him so very deeply.

As an old Indonesian proverb goes, ‘an elephant leaves his tusks when he dies’. Pak Steve has left behind warm and loving memories, and we will remember him for the person he truly was. A very good and kindhearted man.

So long Pak Steve. You will always remain in our hearts.

Gajah mati meninggalkan gading

Sabtu pagi ini dapet kabar. Mantan chief of mission iom,Pak Steve Cook meninggal dunia.
A humble man who is loved deeply by almost all the people who know him.

Kita tahu ini mungkin yang terbaik bagi Pak Steve, dan kita tahu Pak Steve had lived his life to the fullest and have had it the way he wanted it.
But we are still gonna miss him anyway

Begitulah. Seperti layaknya gajah mati yang meninggalkan gading, kenangan akan Pak Steve, have always been the best ones. Because that’s how we know him. A very good and kind guy.

So long Pak Steve. The memories of you, remain in our heart.
